During the course of the Global Pandemic many large-scale industrial and infrastructural projects were put on hold – however, that has now changed and many large industrial operations are reinvesting in capital equipment, with many in search of a rock crusher for sale.
Rock crushers are used for a variety of projects, including the production of gravel for road building or other building projects.
How Does A Rock Crusher Work?
A rock crusher for sale will usually consist of a hopper that receives the raw material and this is then gravity fed to the crushing mechanism. Alternatively, a conveyor belt can be used to feed the raw material into the crushing mechanism. Many types of rock crushers also feature a second crusher where the rock is again processed in finer particles. It is not unusual for three rock crushers to be linked in order to produce extremely fine particles.
Jaw Crusher
One of the most common types of rock crusher is known as the Jaw crusher. This is one of the simplest types of jaw-type rock crushers that are available on the market. It consists of two metal walls that are positioned in a ‘V’ formation. Once the raw material reaches the bottom of the ‘V’ one of the walls moves inwards (sometimes up to three or four times a second) providing the crushing action. The crushed rock then falls into a collection bin.
Roller Crusher
Another rock crusher that is in common use is the Roller crusher. These models of crusher use two counter-rotating cylinders. The raw rock is fed into the mechanism – and the action of the rollers then performs the crushing action. These types of crushers are commonly used as the second stage of the crushing action as they are capable of extremely fine crushing action.
Gyratory Crushers
Gyratory stone crushers work in very much the same way. The raw material is fed into the top of the crusher and meets a spinning disk which performs the crushing action. A related type of rock crusher is known as the spring cone crushers. Cone Crushers are suitable for use with aggregate that is medium hard to hard, and also with highly abrasive feeds.
It is usual for multiple crushers to be used in conjunction. Primary crushing will usually reduce the raw material into gravel with a diameter of between four and six inches. Secondary and tertiary crushers will then further reduce the diameter of the gravel – and many will also shape the gravel into a final product that is suitable for a specific use.
Operators need to be aware that the types of stone that are being crushed will impact the type of crushers that are being used. Common types of aggregate include limestone, sandstone, gravel, and granite.
There are a variety of suppliers of rock crushing equipment – and many will offer a full range. Operators would be well-advised to select a mining equipment supplier who offers maintenance and insurance. These machines are incredibly tough, however, they are subject to enormous stresses – and the nature of the material that they will handle means that the equipment needs to be of the highest quality.
